Welcome to our weekly blog!

Star of the Week

Matthew has been awarded Star of the Week this week for being a Balanceatops (Balanced) and a Thinkatops (Thinker). Matthew always has an excellent attitude to learning and trying his best in all activities this week. Also, he has been using his thinking skills in UOI.  Well done Matthew! We hope you have a lovely week with Mr Bucky and we can't wait to hear about your adventures.

Phonics and Reading Challenge Friday

This week, we have continued to work really hard with our phonics.

Green Stars have learned the sound 'Rr' this week. They have been looking at words that contain the sound, practising their blending and writing skills.

Red Stars have learned the sound 'Uu' this week. They have been looking at words that contain the sound, practising their blending and writing skills.

Blue Stars have learned the sound 'Jj' this week. They have been looking at words that contain the sound, practising their blending and writing skills. They have also been practising reading words from their reading challenge.

Here are some of the sentences we have been reading this week as part of our Reading Challenge:

Always remember we need a capital letter at the beginning of the sentence, finger spaces in between each word and a full stop at the end.

Home learning (optional): Practice letter formations. Think about the size of your letters. Can you write some words?

Next week: Green Stars: Mm     Red Stars: Ll/ll    Blue Stars: 'oa'

Story of the Week: Kipper by Mick Inkpen

Talk 4 Writing

This week, we discussed the character of 'Kipper' from the series written by Mick Inkpen. The children talked about what they have they enjoyed from the Kipper series and told us what adventures they want Kipper to go on. This is going to lead into our story creations next week, where the children will create their own story about Kipper and his best friend Tiger.

Maths

This week, the children recapped 2D shapes and their properties and introduced to some 3D shapes - cube, cylinder, sphere and cone. We also recapped our counting skills and adding one more. Here are some pictures:

Home learning (optional): Can you find a sphere, a cone, a cube or a cylinder in your home? Take pictures and add them to Tapestry.

Next week: Number writing practice. Finding the missing number in a sequence. Months of the year in English and Thai.

Unit of Inquiry (UOI)

Unit: How the world works

Central Idea: Materials behave and interact in certain ways, which determine how people use them.

We are currently in the 'Taking Action' part of our inquiry. The children have participated in our sorting activity in the classroom to identify what material each object is made from. We also thought about how we cand describe them e.g. hard/soft, smooth/rough, bendy/rigid.

Also, the children have been looking at water and how it can change. Water can be frozen to make ice (liquid into solid). Water can be boiled to make steam (liquid into gas).

Next week, the children will be looking more into floating and sinking. We will also be doing a science investigation to decide what the best material would be to keep our feet dry when we stand in water - bare feet, socks, paper, bubble wrap or clingfilm.

Home learning (optional): Mix water and food colouring together, put the mixture into an ice cube tray and freeze. Once frozen, use the coloured ice cubes to create ice paintings.

Physical Education (PE)

This week, we have been learning about logical games such as tic-tac-toe and human chess. This allows us to improve our logical thinking when we play sports games. In addition, we had a lot of fun swimming. We learned how to breathe correctly (in and out of the water) and how to put our face in the water whilst completing swimming strokes.

Thai

This week, the students were being open-minded learners to study other cultures from different countries of the world. The students had fun learning about flags and matching the name of the country in Thai.

Here are some other things we have been getting up to:

International Day

On Thursday, the whole school celebrated International Day. The children were involved in group activities and performed in our whole school show. Here are some pictures from the day:
