Welcome to our weekly blog!
This Week
This week, we have been busy in Penguin Class (K2). Here are some of the things we have been getting up to:
Star of the Week
David has been awarded Star of the Week this week for being a good friend and being helpful around the classroom. We hope you have a lovely weekend with Mr Bucky and we can't wait to hear about your adventures.
Phonics
We have been learning about the phonics sound 'a' this week. The children have been practising how to say the sound, think of words beginning with 'a' and in the middle of words like 'jam' and 'man'. We also had a go at writing 'a' using the correct letter formation. We have done lots of activities in relation to our phonics this week. We have been cutting apples, making astronaut helmets and folding our own paper airplanes.
Next week, we will be learning the phonics sound 't'.
Maths
This week, our number of the week was '2 (two)'. We went on a number 2 number hunt around the classroom to see if we could find things that represent 2 - numbers, words, two objects. Our shape of the week was 'square' and we also looked around the classroom to see if we could find any square shapes.
Home learning (optional): Find squares at home. Learn what number your house/apartment is.
Next week, our number of the week is '3 (three)' and our shape of the week is 'triangle'.
Unit of Inquiry (UOI)
Who we are in relation to others and our environment.
We are currently in the 'Finding Out' part of our inquiry. This week, we have talked about what it means to be 'responsible' at home and at school. From this, the children chose which class job they would like for the week. We also talked about Fire Safety and went to see where our evacuation point is. The children were told that if they hear the fire bell, they should not be scared and it is actually a good thing as it keeps us safe.
Home Learning (optional): Talk with your child about fire safety at home. What do they need to do if there is a fire at home?
Next week, we will be discussing these questions:
Who lives in your house?
How can we work together to be successful?
Library
Library days are Mondays. This means your child can change their books and bring them home for the week. We would advise to bring them back to school by Friday to ensure that your child's book will be changed. If you have any questions about this, please do not hesitate to contact me.

The next observation date is Friday 4th September 2020. If you have any questions about Tapestry, please do not hesitate to contact myself or Ms.Phibz.
Line Group
All parents should now have access to the K2 Line Group. If you haven't yet, please email me and I can help you set this up. Please note - we will be unable to reply to messages during the school morning and on evenings and weekends. If you have any questions which are of importance, please send an email to myself and Ms.Patty. We will always do our best to get in contact with you as soon as we can.
Any other business
Snacks - If you want your child to bring their own milk from home for snack times, please let us know so we can ensure they have their own. Also, please do not send the children chocolate, biscuits and sweets for snack time. If you wish to send a snack for your child, please make sure it is a healthy snack e.g. cereal bars and fruit/vegetable sticks.
Mystery Reader - This morning (28/08/2020), you will have received an email to sign up for mystery reader. This is optional but we encourage parents to participate. If you would like more information about this, please send me an email.
Class Representatives - This week, we requested for two parents from K2 to become our class representatives. The deadline is Monday, so please let us know as soon as possible. If you would like any more information about this, please email our Principal, Mr Robert: robert.taylor@udoninternationalschool.com
T is for Toys - Next week, your child can bring into school their favourite toys to show the other children. This will link in with our phonics sound 't' and thinking about our favourite things.
