Welcome to our weekly blog!
Star of the Week
Lily has been awarded Star of the Week this week for being an Open-minderocus (Open-minded). Lily not only tries hard at all aspects of learning, but she thinks about ways on how to improve herself independently. For example, Lily will use different resources in the classroom to develop her skills even during play times. We hope you have a lovely week with Mr Bucky and we can't wait to hear about your adventures.
Phonics and Talk 4 Writing
Red Stars: This week, we decided that because our Red Stars group were working so hard with their phonics that we would focus 'i' and 'n' so that we can move onto our set 2 phonics sounds. The children discussed words beginning and containing with 'i' and 'n', recognising 'i' and 'n' in words and practising the letter formations.
Blue Stars: This week, they have recapped their set one sounds (satpin) and the set two sounds they have learnt so far (ckh). The children were also introduced to 'r' this week. The children discussed words beginning with 'r', recognising 'r' in words and practising the letter formation.
In Talk 4 Writing, we came to an end with our Pirates theme and added items to our story treasure box that we are going to keep in our reading area. The children were very creative with the items they put in. We have now started with 'Witches, Wizards and Magic' and started looking at 'Room on the Broom' by Julia Donaldson. The children love reading stories by Julia Donaldson like 'The Gruffalo' and 'Stickman', so this story has become another class favourite. We talked about what the story could be about and made our predictions to what we thought might happen next. Mr David also looked at Room on the Broom in K2's library session this week.
Home learning (optional): Ask your children about the story 'Room on the Broom' and see if they can retell the story to you. The story can easily be found on YouTube.
Next week: Red Stars: Cc Blue Stars: Mm
Story of the Week: Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson
New theme: Witches, Wizards and Magic
Maths
Red Stars: This week, the children worked on their number recall between 0 to 5 and ordering numbers. We also played a game 'What is the missing number?' to see if they could determine the number that was missing from the 0 to 5 sequence. This was a chance for them to practise their number formations as well.
Blue Stars: This week, the children worked on their number recall between 0 to 10 and ordering numbers. We also played a game 'What is the missing number?' to see if they could determine the number that was missing from the 0 to 10 sequence. This was a chance for them to practise their number formations as well.
Home learning (optional): Write numbers onto separate pieces of paper and muddle them up. See if your child can put them in the correct order. Hide a number and see if they can guess which number is missing.
Next week: We will look at comparing numbers using vocabulary 'bigger', 'smaller', 'more' and 'fewer'. Red Stars will focus on 0 to 5 and Blue Stars will focus on 0 to 10.
Number of the week: Red Stars - 2 (two) / Blue Stars - 2 (two)
Shape of the week: Triangle
Unit of Inquiry (UOI)
We explore and make sense of our world through the stories we tell.
We are currently in the 'Finding Out' part of our inquiry. This week, we focused on 'characters' and what a character is. We looked at characters from our favourite stories thinking about:
What is this character’s name?
What story are they from?
Are they good or bad?
Can you remember something about them?
The children then designed their own character puppet, which are going to make in the next couple of the weeks. The children were very imaginative and creative whilst designing their puppets, whether based on a familiar character or their very own character. I know the children will be excited to show you their final product once it is completed.
We will focus on a theme every two weeks:
Week 10 and 11 - Pirates - Completed!
Week 12 and 13 - Witches, Wizards and Magic
Week 14 and 15 - Mythical Creatures
Week 16 and 17 - Snow and Ice
After the Christmas break:
Week 18 and 19 - Under the Sea
Week 20 - Showcase week
If your child has a favourite book about any of the themes above at home, they are more than welcome to bring this in to show the class.
Library
Library is on a Monday. This means your child can change their books and bring them home for the week. We would advise to bring them back to school by Friday to ensure that your child's book will be changed. If you have any questions about this, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Tapestry
The next Tapestry observation upload will be Friday 11th November 2020. Please feel free to add your own observations from home. It is always wonderful to see what the children are getting up to in their spare time. If you are unsure how to do this, please send me an email.
All observations that you put onto Tapestry are viewed by myself. As requested by a parent and also a good idea, I will do my best to add my own comment on the observation so that you know I have viewed them. Thank you for all the observations so far. Keep up the great work! :)

The Line Group is for general queries. If you have any concerns or questions you wish to ask privately, please either send a separate line message to Ms Patty or Ms Oil. Alternatively, please send me an email.
Please note - we will be unable to reply to messages during the school morning and on evenings and weekends. If you have any questions which are of importance, please send an email to me, Ms.Patty and Ms.Oil. We will always do our best to get in contact with you as soon as we can.
