Welcome to our weekly blog!
Star of the Week
Bin has been awarded Star of the Week this week for being a balanceatops (Balanced). Bin has continued to work hard this week, but had a great 'can do' attitude when he completed his writing assessment. Bin is becoming a more confident writer and has impressed us with his reading challenge. We hope you have a lovely week with Mr Bucky and we can't wait to hear about your adventures.
Phonics and Talk 4 Writing
Red Stars: This week, they have recapped their satpin sounds, with a strong focus on p. The children discussed words beginning with p, recognising p in words and practising the letter formation.
Blue Stars: This week, they have recapped their satpin sounds, including c and k. The children were also introduced to 'h' this week. The children discussed words beginning with h, recognising h in words and practising the letter formation.
In Talk 4 Writing, we continued looking at Portside Pirates and discovered that it is a 'singing' story. We created actions to go with the song. Singing is one of the ways we can express ourselves, which is the focus of our UOI - How we express ourselves.
Home learning (optional): See if your child can remember the actions to Portside Pirates. Maybe you can join in with your child too!
Next week: Red Stars: Ii Blue Stars: Rr
Story of the Week: Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson
New theme: Witches, Wizards and Magic
Maths
Red Stars: The focus this week has been to recognise, say and write the number 5 (five). The children had a lot of practice on how to write the number 5 correctly as well as practising 0, 1, 2, 3 and 5 formations.
Blue Stars: The focus this week has been to recognise, say and write the number 10 (ten). The children enjoyed practising their number formations from 0 to 10, finding items of 10 and solving word problems.
Home learning (optional): Practice number writing at home.
Next week: We are going to be moving on from focusing on individual numbers. Next week, we will look at ordering numbers and being able to identify missing numbers. Red Stars will focus on 0 to 5 and Blue Stars will focus on 0 to 10.
Number of the week: Red Stars - 1 (one) / Blue Stars - 1 (one)
Shape of the week: Square
Unit of Inquiry (UOI)
We explore and make sense of our world through the stories we tell.
We are currently in the 'Taking Action' part of our inquiry. The children have continued to enjoy playing with the pirate ship in the classroom. They also love our new potions lab linking in with Halloween and our next theme 'Witches, Wizards and Magic'. We are creating different story settings in our classroom to encourage the children to explore different types of stories. We continued to read our story of the week 'Portside Pirates' too.
We will focus on a theme every two weeks:
Week 10 and 11 - Pirates
Week 12 and 13 - Witches, Wizards and Magic
Week 14 and 15 - Mythical Creatures
Week 16 and 17 - Snow and Ice
After the Christmas break:
Week 18 and 19 - Under the Sea
Week 20 - Showcase week
If your child has a favourite book about pirates or any of the other themes above at home, they are more than welcome to bring this in to show the class.
Library
Library is on a Monday. This means your child can change their books and bring them home for the week. We would advise to bring them back to school by Friday to ensure that your child's book will be changed. If you have any questions about this, please do not hesitate to contact me.
