Welcome to our weekly blog!

Good news and sad news

Good news - As Penguin Class is growing, we are going to have another teaching assistant in K2! Ms.Oil is coming to join Ms.Patty and I and be part of the K2 Team. Some of you might remember Ms.Oil as she was the teaching assistant in K1 last year. Ms.Oil is very excited to join us next week. Welcome back to Early Years Ms.Oil!

Sad news - Sadly, Alin is leaving us today, but she has a big adventure ahead of her. She is moving house with her family and starting a new school! We hope Alin has an amazing time at her new school. She is going to be missed by us all.

This Week

This week, we have been busy in K2. Here are some of the things we have been getting up to:

Phonics

We have been learning about the phonics sound 's' this week. The children have been practising how to say the sound, think of words beginning with 's' and have a go at writing 's' using the correct letter formation. We had fun doing active phonics, where we did actions beginning with 's' - spin, step, slide, stretch, stomp, squat, starjump. Also, the children made superhero masks ready for our Superhero Party today.

Next week, we will be learning the phonics sound 'a'.

Maths

This week, our number of the week was '1 (one)'. We went on a number 1 number hunt around the classroom to see if we could find things that represent 1 - numbers, words, one object. Our shape of the week was 'circle' and we also looked around the classroom to see if we could find any circle shapes.

Home learning (optional): Find circles at home.

Next week, our number of the week is '2 (two)' and our shape of the week is 'square'.

Unit of Inquiry (UOI)

Who we are in relation to others and our environment.

We are currently in the 'Tuning in' part of our inquiry. This week, we have focused on our essential agreements in our classroom. We also started to talk about routines and the routine we have when we go to the airport to go on holiday.

Home Learning (optional): Talk with your child about their daily routine at home and why we might do certain things as part of our day e.g. brushing their teeth, tidying up toys, going to the temple.

Next week, we will be sharing with each other the routines that we have at home and why we might do certain things.

Library

Library days are Mondays. This means your child can change their books and bring them home for the week. We would advise to bring them back to school by Friday to ensure that your child's book will be changed. If you have any questions about this, please do not hesitate to contact me.

The children have enjoyed their specialist lessons this week. The specialist teachers your child will be taught by are:

PE/Swimming - Mr.Xavi - xavi@udoninternationalschool.com

Music - Mr.Ben - benjamin@udoninternationalschool.com

Tapestry

All parents should now have access to Tapestry, our online journal platform. Please update the 'All About Me' section for your child. The first observation release date is today. The next observation date is Friday 4th September 2020. If you have any questions about Tapestry, please do not hesitate to contact myself or Ms.Phibz.

Line Group

All parents should now have access to the K2 Line Group. If you haven't yet, please email me and I can help you set this up. Please note - we will be unable to reply to messages during the school morning and on evenings and weekends. If you have any questions which are of importance, please send an email to myself and Ms.Patty. We will always do our best to get in contact with you as soon as we can.

Please Note

Snacks - If you want your child to bring their own milk from home for snack times, please let us know so we can ensure they have their own. Also, please do not send the children chocolate, biscuits and sweets for snack time. If you wish to send a snack for your child, please make sure it is a healthy snack e.g. cereal bars and fruit/vegetable sticks.

Next week:

Book of the Week - The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson (2 weeks)

Sound of the Week - Aa

Number of the Week - 2

Shape of the Week - Square

Song of the Week - The Ants Go Marching (Phonics link)

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact either myself or Ms.Patty. We are more than happy to help and answer your questions.

Have a wonderful weekend and I will see you next week.

Kind regards,

Ms.Charlie
