Welcome to our weekly blog!

This Week

This week, we have been busy in Penguin Class (K2). Here are some of the things we have been getting up to:

Star of the Week

Nat has been awarded Star of the Week this week for working very hard in phonics and really working on his communication skills. We hope you have a lovely weekend with Mr Bucky and we can't wait to hear about your adventures.

Phonics

We have been learning about the phonics sound 't' this week. The children have been practising how to say the sound, think of words beginning, ending and containing 't' like 'tree' and 'pet'. We also had a go at writing 't' using the correct letter formation. We have done lots of activities in relation to our phonics this week. We have been making toast, building towers, making telephones from cups and string and making telescopes.

Next week, we will be learning the phonics sound 'p'.

Special announcement: On Friday 11th September, we are going to perform our song of the week 'Penguin Dance'. This will be recorded and sent to parents. If your child would like to come dressed as a penguin or wearing black/white clothing, they can. We will be making penguin masks in class.

Maths

This week, our number of the week was '3 (three)'. We went on a number 3 number hunt around the classroom to see if we could find things that represent 3 - numbers, words, three objects. Our shape of the week was 'triangle' and we made triangle fish.

Home learning (optional): Practice writing numbers 1, 2 and 3.

Next week, our number of the week is '4 (four)' and our shape of the week is 'rectangle'.

Unit of Inquiry (UOI)

Who we are in relation to others and our environment.

We are currently in the 'Finding Out' part of our inquiry. This week, we had our whole school fire drill practice. K2 did incredibly well and were very 'responsible'. We have also talked about feelings and that sometimes we can have good and bad feelings. From this, we discussed how to be a good friend. The children also talked about their favourite toy to the class. Finally, we talked about who we live with and how can we help each other to be successful.

Home Learning (optional): On Friday 18th September, we are going to celebrate the places we come from in our K2 International Day. On this day, they can come to school in traditional or themed clothes and bring something to show. This links in with our 'Who we are' topic and the phonics sound of that week, which will be 'i'. During this time, talk to your child about where their families come from and prepare what they can share on this special day.

Next week, we will be discussing these questions:

How can I describe myself?

What are my likes and dislikes?

Here are some other things we have been getting up to

Library

Library days are Mondays. This means your child can change their books and bring them home for the week. We would advise to bring them back to school by Friday to ensure that your child's book will be changed. If you have any questions about this, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Specialists lessons

The children have enjoyed their specialist lessons this week. The specialist teachers your child will be taught by are:

Thai - Ms.Doum - hattaya@udoninternationalschool.com

PE/Swimming - Mr.Xavi - xavi@udoninternationalschool.com

Library/Music - Ms.Must - saowarak@udoninternationalschool.com

Art/Dance - Ms.Patty and Ms.Oil

Tapestry

All parents should now have access to Tapestry, our online journal platform. Please update the 'All About Me' section for your child. Today you will receive the next observation for your child. The next date is Friday 18th September 2020. If you have any questions about Tapestry, please do not hesitate to contact myself or Ms.Phibz.

Line Group

All parents should now have access to the K2 Line Group. If you haven't yet, please email me and I can help you set this up. Please note - we will be unable to reply to messages during the school morning and on evenings and weekends. If you have any questions which are of importance, please send an email to myself and Ms.Patty. We will always do our best to get in contact with you as soon as we can.

Any other business

Mystery Reader - There is still time for you to sign up for our Mystery Reader. Thank you to the parents who have already signed up. This is optional but we encourage parents to participate. If you would like more information about this, please send me an email.

Class Representatives - We have our two class representatives. Thank you to Leela's Mum and Zen's Mum for stepping up to this role. We are really grateful and appreciate your support.

PTA Meeting - We have a PTA meeting on Monday 7th September. This will be hosted by our Principal, Mr Robert. Everyone welcome.

Swimming - We are going to trial swimming next Friday (11th September). Your child can wear their swimming clothes under their uniform. Please ensure that they bring a towel, a plastic bag, swimming goggles and a swimming hat. If you can show your child how they can dry themselves and how to get dressed, this will help them prepare.

Next week:

Book of the Week - The Princess and the Pea

Sound of the Week - Pp

Number of the Week - 4

Shape of the Week - Rectangle

Song of the Week - Penguin Dance (Phonics link)

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact either myself,  Ms.Patty or Ms.Oil. We are more than happy to help and answer your questions.

Have a wonderful weekend and I will see you next week.

Kind regards,

Ms.Charlie
