Welcome to our weekly blog!
This Week
This week, we have been busy in Penguin Class (K2). Here are some of the things we have been getting up to:
Star of the Week
Avi has been awarded Star of the Week this week for practising to develop his English speaking skills as well as always trying his best in all areas. We hope you have a lovely weekend with Mr Bucky and we can't wait to hear about your adventures.
Phonics and Talk 4 Writing
We have been learning about the phonics sound 'p' this week. The children have been practising how to say the sound, think of words beginning, ending and containing 'p' like 'pin' and 'taps'. We also had a go at writing 'p' using the correct letter formation. We have done lots of activities in relation to our phonics this week. We have been making picking up peas using tweezers to develop our fine motor skills, creating parrot crafts and performing our penguin dance.
In Talk 4 Writing, we have been looking at the story 'The Princess and the Pea', linking into our phonics.
Home learning (optional): Practice writing the sounds 's', 'a', 't' and 'p'. What words can you create?
Next week, we will be learning the phonics sound 'i' and in Talk 4 Writing, we will be reading 'Farmer Duck'.
Special announcement: On Friday 18th September, K2 will be having their very own 'International Day' to celebrate our sound of the week 'i', but also to link into our UOI topic on where our families come from. Your child can dress in traditional costume or wear sportswear the represent their family's country.
Maths
This week, our number of the week was '4 (four)'. We went on a number 4 number hunt around the classroom to see if we could find things that represent 4 - numbers, words, four objects. Our shape of the week was 'rectangle', which will also be our shape of the week next week when we make flags. Also, we focused on number recognition and order up to 20!
Home learning (optional): Practice counting items at home. For example: Find 3 apples. Find 4 lego bricks. Find 2 teddy bears.
Next week, our number of the week is '5 (five)' and our shape of the week is 'rectangle' to link with our international day.
Unit of Inquiry (UOI)
Who we are in relation to others and our environment.
We are currently in the 'Sorting Out' part of our inquiry. This week, we worked in groups to find out more about each other to show how we can be similar and different. For example: What colour eyes do you have? What languages can you speak? What is your favourite fruit? We also talked about the different interests we have in class to develop our interests board, which will be displayed.
Home Learning (optional): On Friday 18th September, we are going to celebrate the places we come from in our K2 International Day. On this day, they can come to school in traditional or themed clothes and bring something to show. This links in with our 'Who we are' topic and the phonics sound of that week, which will be 'i'. During this time, talk to your child about where their families come from and prepare what they can share on this special day.
Next week, we will be discussing this question:
Where do we come from?
Library
Library days are Mondays. This means your child can change their books and bring them home for the week. We would advise to bring them back to school by Friday to ensure that your child's book will be changed. If you have any questions about this, please do not hesitate to contact me.

The next date is Friday 18th September 2020. If you have any questions about Tapestry, please do not hesitate to contact myself or Ms.Phibz.
Line Group
All parents should now have access to the K2 Line Group. If you haven't yet, please email me and I can help you set this up. Please note - we will be unable to reply to messages during the school morning and on evenings and weekends. If you have any questions which are of importance, please send an email to myself and Ms.Patty. We will always do our best to get in contact with you as soon as we can.
Any other business
Mystery Reader - There is still time for you to sign up for our Mystery Reader. Thank you to the parents who have already signed up. This is optional but we encourage parents to participate. If you would like more information about this, please send me an email.
Swimming - Mr Xavi was very impressed with the children in their first swimming lesson of the year that it has been decided to continue with the swimming lessons next week. Well done K2 for being swimming superstars.
Penguin Party - Thank you for sending your children dressed as penguins. Although they were not dressed as penguins for long, they certainly loved seeing each other dressed up.
