Welcome to our weekly blog!

Star of the Week

Leela has been awarded Star of the Week this week for being a careraptor (Carer). Leela always works very hard in class and is a great friend to everyone. Leela did particularly well in her end of unit showcase when she talked about her family in Thailand and New Zealand. We hope you have a lovely weekend with Mr Bucky and we can't wait to hear about your adventures.

Phonics and Talk 4 Writing

In phonics this week, we have split into our two groups Red Stars and Blue Stars.

Red Stars: This week, they have recapped their satpin sounds, with a strong focus on s. The children discussed words beginning with s, recognising s in words and practising the letter formation.

Blue Stars: This week, they have recapped their satpin sound. The children were also introduced to 'ck', focusing on curly c for this week. The children discussed words beginning with c, recognising c in words and practising the letter formation.

In Talk 4 Writing, we have been looking at an ebook story 'The Cautious Caterpillar', linking into our phonics.

Home learning (optional): Practice writing phonic sounds. Some children are writing their 's' backwards.

Next week, we will be splitting into our phonics groups based on the phonics assessments that have been completed this week. Red Stars: Aa Blue Stars: Kk

Maths

Red Stars: The focus this week has been to recognise, say and write the number 2 (two). The children had a lot of practice on how to write the number 2 correctly. They also took part in our number hunt, which they loved.

Blue Stars: The focus this week has been to recognise, say and write the number 7 (seven). The children enjoyed practising their number formations from 0 to 7, finding items of 7 and going on a number hunt.

Home learning (optional): Create your own number hunt with your family at home. Ask your family to hide numbers between 0 and 10 and see if you can find them.

Next week:

Number of the week: Red Stars - 3 (three) / Blue Stars - 8 (eight)

Shape of the week: Triangle

Unit of Inquiry (UOI)

Who we are in relation to others and our environment.

We are currently in the 'Making Conclusions' part of our inquiry. This week, we looked at the question:

What are the five senses?

What can I see/feel/hear/taste/smell?

We also completed our showcase observation, which you will receive today on Tapestry. Some of the children were a little shy when being filmed, but everyone did a great job. I hope you enjoy watching the videos.

Next week, we will be talking about the lifecycle of the butterfly. This links with our Talk 4 Writing story 'The Cautious Caterpillar' and science.

Here are some other things we have been getting up to

Library

Library days are Mondays. This means your child can change their books and bring them home for the week. We would advise to bring them back to school by Friday to ensure that your child's book will be changed. If you have any questions about this, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please feel free to add your own observations from home. It is always wonderful to see what the children are getting up to in their spare time. If you are unsure how to do this, please send me an email.

Please note - we will be unable to reply to messages during the school morning and on evenings and weekends. If you have any questions which are of importance, please send an email to me, Ms.Patty and Ms.Oil. We will always do our best to get in contact with you as soon as we can.
