Welcome to our weekly blog!
Welcome back! We hope you all had a wonderful October break! It is wonderful to have the penguins back in class, even if it was only for three days this week. We have a super exciting half term coming up with lots of learning and play opportunities for your child.
Star of the Week
Zen has been awarded Star of the Week this week for being a thinkatops (Thinker). Zen has become more confident in class to share his thoughts, ideas and opinions. He likes to think of new ways to make things based on his favourite film 'The Lion King'. We hope you have a lovely week with Mr Bucky and we can't wait to hear about your adventures.
IB Learner Profile Award
We had our first whole school assembly today and K2 really enjoyed themselves.
Zen was awarded the IB Learner Profile Award for K2 by Mr Rob (our Principal). Big congratulations to Zen.
Also, a huge well done to all of the children in K2 who continue to work hard every day. The amount of progress we are seeing in each child is wonderful to see. We are very proud of you all! :)
Phonics and Talk 4 Writing
Red Stars: This week, they have recapped their satpin sounds, with a strong focus on t. The children discussed words beginning with t, recognising t in words and practising the letter formation.
Blue Stars: This week, they have recapped their satpin sounds, including c and k. The children were also introduced to 'e' this week. The children discussed words beginning with and containing e, recognising e in words and practising the letter formation.
In Talk 4 Writing, I found an even better ebook for the children to look at, so we have been looking at 'Portside Pirates', linking into our UOI. It has been a short week this week, so we will be looking at this story next week as well.
Home learning (optional): Read a story. Ask your child what sounds do they recognise. Can they even read some CVC words like p-e-t = pet, s-i-t = sit.
After the half-term break: Red Stars: Pp Blue Stars: Hh
Maths
Red Stars: The focus this week has been to recognise, say and write the number 4 (four). The children had a lot of practice on how to write the number 4 correctly as well as practising 0, 1, 2 and 3 formations.
Blue Stars: The focus this week has been to recognise, say and write the number 9 (nine). The children enjoyed practising their number formations from 0 to 9, finding items of 9 and solving word problems.
Home learning (optional): Ask your child to find a number of items in your home between 1 and 10. For example: Can you find 3 pens? Can you find 6 sweets?
Next week:
Number of the week: Red Stars - 5 (five) / Blue Stars - 10 (ten)
Shape of the week: Circle
Unit of Inquiry (UOI)
We explore and make sense of our world through the stories we tell.
We are currently in the 'Taking Action' part of our inquiry. Although it has been a short week, the children have enjoyed playing with our new pirate resources in the classroom, including our pirate ship! We read our story of the week 'Portside Pirates' too. We also asked the children the following questions:
I see - What kind of stories do you see?
I think - What kind of stories could we read in this unit?
I wonder - What kind of stories do I want to explore?
We will focus on a theme every two weeks:
Week 10 and 11 - Pirates
Week 12 and 13 - Witches, Wizards and Magic
Week 14 and 15 - Mythical Creatures
Week 16 and 17 - Snow and Ice
After the Christmas break:
Week 18 and 19 - Under the Sea
Week 20 - Showcase week
If your child has a favourite book about pirates or any of the other themes above at home, they are more than welcome to bring this in to show the class.
Library
Library will be back on Monday. This means your child can change their books and bring them home for the week. We would advise to bring them back to school by Friday to ensure that your child's book will be changed. If you have any questions about this, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Specialists lessons
The children have enjoyed their specialist lessons this week. The specialist teachers your child will be taught by are:

The next Tapestry observation upload will be Friday 30th October 2020. Please feel free to add your own observations from home. It is always wonderful to see what the children are getting up to in their spare time. If you are unsure how to do this, please send me an email.
Line Group
The Line Group is for general queries. If you have any concerns or questions you wish to ask privately, please either send a separate line message to Ms Patty or Ms Oil. Alternatively, please send me an email.
Please note - we will be unable to reply to messages during the school morning and on evenings and weekends. If you have any questions which are of importance, please send an email to me, Ms.Patty and Ms.Oil. We will always do our best to get in contact with you as soon as we can.

Reading Challenge - Well done to the children who have started their Reading Challenge. I can tell that they have been practising at home. Please do not worry if your child has not started the Reading Challenge yet. They will start it when we feel they are ready. We will aim to assess those completing the challenge on a Friday. Any questions, please send me an email.
