Welcome to our weekly blog!
Star of the Week
Patrick has been awarded Star of the Week this week for being a Risk-takerocus (Risk-taker). Patrick has been a risk-taker by trying all the food offered at lunch without any tears. He also discovered a meal that he wants his mum to make him at home! Well done Patrick! We hope you have a lovely week with Mr Bucky and we can't wait to hear about your adventures.
Phonics and Talk 4 Writing
Red Stars: This week, Red Stars are continuing their set two sounds with a focus on 'e'. The children discussed words beginning and containing 'e', recognising 'e' in words and practising the letter formation.
Blue Stars: This week, the children were introduced to 'd' this week. The children discussed words beginning with 'g', recognising 'g' in words and practising the letter formation.
In Talk 4 Writing, we continued with our theme 'Mythical Creatures' and we found an egg under our Christmas tree. The children talked about what they believed was inside the egg and say why. We had some interesting answers from turtles to crocodiles, a wolf to a baby panda. Having discussions like this with the children allows them to use their imagination and well as their communication skills.
Home learning (optional): Practice letter formations.
Next week: Red Stars: Hh Blue Stars: Oo (The final sounds of the term!)
Story of the Week: The Snowman by Raymond Briggs
Next week's theme: Snow and Ice
Maths
Red Stars: This week, the children were introduced to the maths concept of 'Part-whole model'. This allows children to visibly see how we can make a number. For example, if I want to make 3, we can break that down into 2 and 1, because 2 and 1 makes 3 (2 + 1 = 3). We tried this method up to 3.
Blue Stars: This week, the children were introduced to the maths concept of 'Part-whole model'. This allows children to visibly see how we can make a number. For example, if I want to make 3, we can break that down into 2 and 1, because 2 and 1 makes 3 (2 + 1 = 3). We tried this method up to 5.
Home learning (optional): Look at making numbers at home. This will allow your child to build knowledge on addition.
Next week: Measure - length, weight and capacity.
Number of the week: Red Stars - 5 (five) / Blue Stars - 5 (five)
Shape of the week: Square
Unit of Inquiry (UOI)
We explore and make sense of our world through the stories we tell.
We are currently in the 'Making Conclusions' part of our inquiry. This week, the children reflected on the puppets they made. They looked at questions like:
What did you use to make your puppet?
What do you like about your final product?
What would you do differently or make next time?
The children are really proud of what they have made and look forward to showing these to you at our Student-Led Conference.
We will focus on a theme every two weeks:
Week 10 and 11 - Pirates - Completed!
Week 12 and 13 - Witches, Wizards and Magic - Completed!
Week 14 and 15 - Mythical Creatures - Completed!
Week 16 and 17 - Snow and Ice
After the Christmas break:
Week 18 and 19 - Under the Sea
Week 20 - Showcase week
If your child has a favourite book about any of the themes above at home, they are more than welcome to bring this in to show the class.
Physical Education (PE) and Swimming
This week during the PE lesson we had a chance to learn about hand-eye coordination skills using some plastic cups and small balls. The learners did a great job controlling the ball with the cup and also, using motor skills like throwing and catching. In addition, we kept learning in swimming how to glide the body in the water without a swimming board aid.
Thai
Students have learned Thai story 'the giant turnip' and we have brainstormed the story; who, what and where. The students enjoyed doing a role play. The students learned Thai vowels สระ อิ “i”. They are able to read the words and draw a snow man. Well done K2!
Library
Library is on a Monday. This means your child can change their books and bring them home for the week. We would advise to bring them back to school by Friday to ensure that your child's book will be changed. If you have any questions about this, please do not hesitate to contact me.
