Welcome to our weekly blog!

This week, Penguin Class have had a very busy week! We have had our Student-Led Conferences, Parent Meetings, World Soil Day and an Open House event! Although it has been very busy, the children have worked incredibly hard and I am super proud of them.

Star of the Week

Shogul has been awarded Star of the Week this week for being a Knowledgesaurus (Knowledgeable). Shogul has been working really hard with his writing in English and Thai. He has even been practising during playtimes. We hope you have a lovely week with Mr Bucky and we can't wait to hear about your adventures.

Phonics and Talk 4 Writing

This week, the children have enjoyed learning their new sounds. As we have had a busy week with different events going on in EY, we are going to continue with these sounds next week and also complete a phonic sounds recap.

In Talk 4 Writing, we began our new theme 'Snow and Ice' and looked at the story 'The Snowman' by Raymond Briggs. This is story contains images only, which has allowed the children to retell the story in their own words.

Home learning (optional): Practice your reading challenge. It is important that you practice this. Suggestion: 5-minutes every day.

Next week: Red Stars: Hh Blue Stars: Oo  (Also, a sounds recap)

Story of the Week: The Snowman by Raymond Briggs

Next theme after half term: Under the Sea

Maths

The children have been looking at measurement this week, focusing on the vocabulary and having opportunities to explore different types of measurement.

Home learning (optional): Talk about measure with your child at home.

Length: Which is the longest? Which is the shortest? Which is the biggest? Which is the smallest? Which is the tallest? Which is the shortest?

Weight: Which is the heaviest? Which is the lightest? Is it balanced?

Capacity: Which is full? Which is empty? Which is half full?

Next week: Christmas Shapes

Number of the week: None

Shape of the week: None

Unit of Inquiry (UOI)

We explore and make sense of our world through the stories we tell.

As we have been looking at the story 'The Snowman' this week and knowing that some of the children may have never played with snow before, we decided to link our UOI with our Art lesson.

The children helped Ms Patty and Ms Oil make fake snow (which is very easy to do at home as well!) and with that fake snow, they built their own snowman.

To make fake snow, you will need:

3 cups of baking soda

1 cup of hair conditioner

Mix together in a bowl and you have snow! Simple!

We will focus on a theme every two weeks:

Week 10 and 11 - Pirates - Completed!

Week 12 and 13 - Witches, Wizards and Magic - Completed!

Week 14 and 15 - Mythical Creatures - Completed!

Week 16 and 17 - Snow and Ice

After the Christmas break:

Week 18 and 19 - Under the Sea

Week 20 - Showcase week

If your child has a favourite book about any of the themes above at home, they are more than welcome to bring this in to show the class.

Physical Education (PE)

This week the learners had a chance to experience some gymnastics movements using some new equipment like a mini-trampoline. In addition, we learnt about striking and hand-eye coordination skills using small balls and a table tennis racquet to control it. Overall, we had lots of fun playing the popcorn game with our parachute on Friday.

Thai

The children have learned about World Soil Day, which is a memorial for King Rama IX. The children enjoyed colouring pictures that showed the different projects that King Rama IX was involved with.

Here are some other things we have been getting up to

Library

Library is on a Monday. This means your child can change their books and bring them home for the week. We would advise to bring them back to school by Friday to ensure that your child's book will be changed. If you have any questions about this, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Student-Led Conferences (Wednesday)

World Soil Day (Thursday)

Line Group

The Line Group is for general queries. If you have any concerns or questions you wish to ask privately, please either send a separate line message to Ms Patty or Ms Oil. Alternatively, please send me an email.

Please note - we will be unable to reply to messages during the school morning and on evenings and weekends. If you have any questions which are of importance, please send an email to me, Ms.Patty and Ms.Oil. We will always do our best to get in contact with you as soon as we can.

Any other business
