Welcome to our weekly blog!
Star of the Week
Leela has been awarded Star of the Week this week for being a Communicatordon (Communicator). Leela has been really proactive in all lessons by asking questions and putting her hand up to answer them too. She has been able to do this in English and Thai. Well done Leela! We hope you have a lovely week with Mr Bucky and we can't wait to hear about your adventures.
Phonics, Talk 4 Writing and Reading Challenge Friday
This week, we have continued to work really hard with our phonics.
Green Stars have been looking at set 1 sounds (s,a,t,p,i,n), hearing the initial sound in words and working on their blending and writing skills.
Red Stars have been focusing on the sound 'Rr'. They have been thinking of words that begin with the sound, blending words using all their phonic knowledge and practising their writing.
Blue Stars have been focusing on the sound 'Uu'. They have been thinking of words that begin and contain the sound, using their blending skills and practising their writing. They have also been practising reading words from their reading challenge.
In Talk 4 Writing this week has been taught in line with our UOI. The children have been developing their own story. They have had to think about where their story is going to take place, who their character is and what is going to happen. The children will continue working on these next week.
Reading Challenge Friday has now been incorporated into our timetable to allow the children to have practice at school as well as at home. Please ensure that you continue to practice your reading challenges at home. Here are some of the sentences we have been reading this week:
Home learning (optional): Practice your phonics and your reading challenge.
Next week: Green Stars: Focus on Ss, Aa, Tt, Pp, Ii, Nn
Red Stars: Mm Blue Stars: Ll/ll
Story of the Week: You Choose by Nick Sharratt
Maths
This week, we have incorporated into our timetable to have Maths every day and the children have loved being able to do it this way. (So has Ms Charlie as she loves teaching Maths!) We have focused on ordering numbers to 10 and writing numbers. We have also introduced the children to new vocabulary: same, different, more, less and equal. We have then used these words to compare numbers. Finally, the children have been practising their number bonds to 1 and 2. We have done A LOT of Maths this week! Here are some pictures:
Home learning (optional): Practice ordering and writing numbers 0 to 10. Try 0 to 15 or higher!
Next week: 2D shapes and their properties. Identifying missing numbers in a sequence. Number bonds to 1, 2 and 3 using part-whole models and songs.
Unit of Inquiry (UOI)
We explore and make sense of our world through the stories we tell.
We are currently in the 'Taking Action' part of our inquiry. This week we have taught UOI alongside Talk4Writing as they go hand-in-hand. The children have began developing their own stories. They have come up with some excellent ideas. Here are some pictures:
Next week, the children continue to create their own story, which will link in with Talk4Writing.
We will also begin our new unit next week: How the world works.
Physical Education (PE)
This week we have been learning about music responding, handing skills and reaction time skills. For music responding/reaction time, we had our disco music playing and every time the music stopped, the learners had to react differently, such as seat, free, jump inside the hoop and etc. In addition, we used fundamental motor skills, such as jumping and running to help our reaction time learning.
Thai
This week, the children have been enjoying Thai vowels ‘u’ sound สระ อุ , Students learned listening, reading and writing through the story, song, and game. They are able to recognize the vowels and words.
