K2 Fancy Dress Day - Friday 29th January 2021

Star of the Week

Zen has been awarded Star of the Week this week for being a Risk-takerocus (Risk-taker) and a Principledon (Principled). Zen has really wowed us this week with his phonics knowledge and his writing. He has also tried really hard to be more involved with play with his friends. Well done Zen! We hope you have a lovely week with Mr Bucky and we can't wait to hear about your adventures.

Phonics and Reading Challenge Friday

This week, we have continued to work really hard with our phonics.

Green Stars have been looking at set 1 sounds (s,a,t,p,i,n), hearing the initial sound in words and working on their blending and writing skills.

Red Stars have been focusing on the sound 'Mm'. They have been thinking of words that begin with the sound, blending words using all their phonic knowledge and practising their writing.

Blue Stars have been focusing on the sound 'Ll/ll'. They have been thinking of words that begin and contain the sound, using their blending skills and practising their writing. They have also been practising reading words from their reading challenge.

Here are some of the sentences we have been reading this week as part of our Reading Challenge:

Home learning (optional): Practice your Reading Challenge or your phonics.

Next week: Green Stars: Focus on Ss, Aa, Tt, Pp, Ii, Nn

Red Stars: Dd Blue Stars: Ff

Story of the Week: Kipper by Mick Inkpen

Maths

This week has been very busy in Maths! We have focused on 2D shapes and their properties, finding missing numbers in a sequence, counting and writing numbers and number bonds to 1, 2 and 3. Here are some pictures:

Home learning (optional): Look for shapes at home. Can you find circles, triangles, squares, rectangles, pentagons, hexagons, octagons and ovals? Can you find a 7-sided shape called a heptagon? How many can you find?

Extension: Does your child remember their number bonds to 1, 2 or 3? See if they can show you at home.

Next week: Days of the week in English and Thai, including vocabulary 'yesterday, today and tomorrow'. More than >, Less than <, Equals to =. Recap our number bonds to 1, 2 and 3.

Unit of Inquiry (UOI)

Unit: How the world works

Central Idea: Materials behave and interact in certain ways, which determine how people use them.

We have started a new unit this week. We are currently in the 'Tuning in' part of our inquiry. This week we have taught UOI alongside Talk4Writing as they go hand-in-hand. The children explored different materials using the strategy 'I see, I think, I wonder'. This is an opportunity for the children to explore any prior learning and inquire to develop new knowledge and understanding. Here are some pictures:

Next week, the children begin to look at different materials and learn to describe them. For example: Is it hard or soft? If it smooth or rough?

Physical Education (PE)

This week we have been learning about adventure challenges using some fundamental motor skills such as running and jumping. In addition, we have learned about different types of races, such as sack race, hurdle race and relay race.

Thai

This week, the children have been listening to a story; A thirsty crow and a large pitcher กากระหายกับเหยือกน้ำใบโต from Ms Tum. We have experimented with replacing water to increase the water level by putting rocks and pieces of cotton in the jars. After the experiment, students noticed the change from different objects.

Here are some other things we have been getting up to

Fancy Dress Day

The children have had lots of fun today! Here are some pictures:

Please note - Ms Bee came to take pictures of the class this afternoon and I will add them to the blog next week.
