Welcome to our weekly blog!
Star of the Week
Khin has been awarded Star of the Week this week for being a Communicatordon (Communicator) and a Risk-takerocus (Risk-taker). Khin has had a great attitude towards learning and trying new things. Well done Khin! We hope you have a lovely week with Mr Bucky and we can't wait to hear about your adventures.
Phonics and Reading Challenge Friday
This week, we have continued to work really hard with our phonics.
Green Stars have been looking at 'Hh', hearing the initial sound in words and working on their blending and writing skills.
Red Stars have been focusing on the sound 'Oo'. They have been thinking of words that begin with the sound, blending words using all their phonic knowledge and practising their writing.
Blue Stars have been recapping all the sounds we have learned so far. They have been thinking of words that begin and contain different sounds, using their blending skills and practising their writing. They have also been practising reading words from their reading challenge.
Here are some of the sentences we have been reading this week as part of our Reading Challenge:
Home learning (optional): Say it, write it! Tell your child a sound and see if they can write it down. What words begin with that sound? Can they draw a picture? Can they label their picture?
Next week: Green Stars: Recap Red Stars: Recap Blue Stars: ai
Story of the Week: Kipper's Snowy Day by Mick Inkpen
Talk 4 Writing
This week, we continued the story series 'Kipper' by Mick Inkpen. The children enjoyed listening to another Kipper story, 'Kipper's Birthday'. They were able to answer comprehension style questions about the story and we wrote our own birthday party lists.
Maths
This week, we have been practising 2-step and 3-step patterns using colours, shapes and objects. We have also recapped capacity (a unit of measure) using water and different containers to decide whether something was full, empty or half full/ half empty. We counted how many seconds it would take to fill and empty the container. We found out that it was the same time of 25 seconds. Here are some pictures:
Home learning (optional): Water play at home. Using containers, can you fill it with water to make it full? Can you pour the water out to make it empty? How many seconds does it take to fill? How many seconds does it take to empty? Do you get the same time (in seconds)?
Extension: Practice writing numbers at home. How high can they go?
Next week: Measure - length - Is it tall? Is it short? Is it long? Counting and writing our numbers. Recapping one more and one less of a given number.
Unit of Inquiry (UOI)
Unit: How the world works
Central Idea: Materials behave and interact in certain ways, which determine how people use them.
We are currently in the 'Sorting out' part of our inquiry. We discussed more about materials and their properties. We also watched this video. This is what we discussed:
Next week, the children will complete a mini-assessment on their knowledge of different materials.
Home learning (optional): Floating and sinking. Find some items, put them in water and answer the following questions: Does it float? Does it sink?
Physical Education (PE)
This week, we have been learning about fundamental motor skills, such as striking and hand-eye coordination skill using a tennis racquet as an implement. We looked at how they are connected to sports games (tennis, badminton and baseball). In addition, we did our Yoga movements and stretching exercises before the lesson.
Thai
This week students began learning counting Thai numbers and learning DAY and NIGHT. Students are able to tell the seasons in Thailand and they know the 12 months of a year. We talked about why the time has changed to Day and Night and did a science experiment!
Library
Library day is on Monday. This means your child can change their books and bring them home for the week. We would advise to bring them back to school by Friday to ensure that your child's book will be changed. If you have any questions about this, please do not hesitate to contact me.
*Unfortunately, we have not been able to go to the library this week due to our busy schedule. We will get library books on Monday as normal. Apologies for any inconvenience.

If your child has independently read all their keywords without any support from yourself, please take a video and upload to Tapestry as evidence. (Thank you Patrick's mum for this idea!)
