Welcome to our weekly blog!

Star of the Week

Victoria has been awarded Star of the Week this week for being a Communicatordon (Communicator) and a Risk-takerocus (Risk-taker). Victoria has sometimes been nervous to participate in lessons, but this week she has had a go at everything in every lesson. She has been very brave and had lots of fun. We are very impressed with how chatty she has been too. Well done Victoria! We hope you have a lovely week with Mr Bucky and we can't wait to hear about your adventures.

Phonics and Reading Challenge Friday

This week, we have continued to work really hard with our phonics.

Green Stars have recapped all the sounds we have learned so far. They have been thinking of words that begin and contain different sounds, using their blending skills and practising their writing.

Red Stars have recapped all the sounds we have learned so far. They have been thinking of words that begin and contain different sounds, using their blending skills and practising their writing.

Blue Stars have learned the sound 'ai' this week. They have been looking at words that contain the sound, practising their blending and writing skills. They have also been practising reading words from their reading challenge.

Here are some of the sentences we have been reading this week as part of our Reading Challenge:

Always remember we need a capital letter at the beginning of the sentence, finger spaces in between each word and a full stop at the end.

Home learning (optional): Say it, write it! Tell your child a sound and see if they can write it down. What words begin with that sound? Can they draw a picture? Can they label their picture?

Next week: Green Stars: Hh     Red Stars: Uu    Blue Stars: Jj

Story of the Week: Kipper by Mick Inkpen

Talk 4 Writing

This week, we continued the story series 'Kipper' by Mick Inkpen. The children enjoyed listening to another Kipper story, 'Kipper's Snowy Day'. They were able to answer comprehension style questions about the story. We also talked about any experience we had with snow. Unfortunately, due to the air quality, we couldn't do our shadow pictures, but we hope to do this next week.

Maths

We have continued to look at measure, with a focus on height. We compared items to decide whether they were tall or short. We have also recapped our counting, writing numbers and adding one more. Here are some pictures:

Home learning (optional): Compare different items or family members height at home. What is tall? What is short?

Extension: Continue to practise number writing. Some children are still writing some of their numbers backwards.

Next week: 2D and introduce 3D shapes - sphere, cube and cuboid. Practice number writing, counting, one more and number bonds.

Unit of Inquiry (UOI)

Unit: How the world works

Central Idea: Materials behave and interact in certain ways, which determine how people use them.

We are currently in the 'Making conclusions' part of our inquiry. The children had to use their knowledge to decide which material each picture was made from.

Next week, the children will be looking at water and how water can change when we freeze and boil it. This will focus on solids, liquids and gases (states of matter).

Home learning (optional): Discuss materials at home and their properties.

Physical Education (PE)

This week, we couldn't have our PE lesson due to the holiday, however, we return to our swimming lessons with lots of excitements. We have a chance to learn how to use the swimming noddle as a very important aid during the lessons, and also, we did a treasure hunter game to encourage our learners to dive in the water safely and in a playful way.

Thai

This week, the students learn the religions holiday; Makha Bucha Day and the students colour the activities of the day.

Here are some other things we have been getting up to:
