Welcome to our weekly blog!

Star of the Week

Avi has been awarded Star of the Week this week for being an Inquireapod (Inquirer) and a Reflectosaurus (Reflector). Avi has been asking questions in relation to his learning. He has also used his reflecting skills to ask for feedback about the pronunciation of words and if he is saying word phrases correctly. Well done Avi! We hope you have a lovely week with Mr Bucky and we can't wait to hear about your adventures.

Phonics and Reading Challenge Friday

This week, we have continued to work really hard with our phonics.

Green Stars have learned the sound 'Mm' this week. They have been looking at words that contain the sound, practising their blending and writing skills.

Red Stars have learned the sound 'Ll/ll' this week. They have been looking at words that contain the sound, practising their blending and writing skills.

Blue Stars have learned the sound 'oa' this week. They have been looking at words that contain the sound, practising their blending and writing skills. They have also been practising reading words from their reading challenge.

Here are some of the sentences we have been reading this week as part of our Reading Challenge:

Always remember we need a capital letter at the beginning of the sentence, finger spaces in between each word and a full stop at the end.

Home learning (optional): Create labels for your toys. Can you write robot? Can you write dog? Can you write book? Allow the child to do this independently. Even if the word is not correctly spelt, this is the beginning stages of learning to spell.

Next week: Green Stars: Dd     Red Stars: Ff/ff    Blue Stars: 'ie'

Story of the Week: Where did the water go? - Non-fiction ebook (link to UOI)

Talk 4 Writing

This week, each child created their own story called 'Kipper and Tiger's Adventure'. Each day, the children added a new part to their story through drawings pictures and talking about what will happen. Story maps are great to allow children's imaginations to grow and develop story writing skills.

Maths

This week, we talked about the months of the year in English and Thai. We also practised our number writing and counting up to 10 or 20. Here are some pictures:

Home learning (optional): A lot of the children in the class are unsure of when their birthday is. Talk about what month their birthday is in and other members of their family. Extension: Make a birthday calendar together.

Next week: Recap days of the week and months of the year in English and Thai. Comparing numbers - which is 'more' or 'less'? Identifying numbers - which numbers are 'odd' and 'even'?

Unit of Inquiry (UOI)

Unit: How the world works

Central Idea: Materials behave and interact in certain ways, which determine how people use them.

We are currently in the 'Taking Action' part of our inquiry. This week we completed a science investigation using the question 'Which material will make the best rain boots?' We talked about the word 'waterproof' and how using waterproof materials can help us stay dry in the rainy season. We made some rain boots out of different materials and we found out that 'clingfilm' was the best material.

Next week, the children will be exploring different science experiments with K1.

Home learning (optional): Investigate: What material would be best to be an umbrella? Is it metal/fabric/wood/plastic/glass/paper?

Physical Education (PE)

This week in our swimming lesson, we have learned how to glide in the water without the board. We also had a chance to play treasure hunters with the aim to improve our learners diving skills. In addition, we had a chance to learn about how jumping and balancing skills are very connected by using our trampoline and jumping rope.

Thai

This week, we have been learning about different materials to link in with our UOI. We made our own creation using different materials.

Here are some other things we have been getting up to:
