Welcome to our weekly blog!
Happy Songkran Holidays!
Star of the Week
As it is the last week of term, Mr Bucky always has a well-deserved rest. The three main learner profiles we have focused on this term are principled, carer and reflector. All the children in K2 have certainly demonstrated these profiles at some point during the term. The children are definitely ready for a rest and to spend quality time with their family.
Phonics and Reading Challenge Friday
Although we have been busy practising for our Songkran event, we have been completing a recap of all the phonics we have learnt so far. Here are some pictures:
Home learning (optional): Practice blending and writing cvc words at home. For example: cat, dog, run, pan, lip
Talk 4 Writing
This week, we continued looking at the story 'A Squash and a Squeeze' by Julia Donaldson. The children thought about different animals to put into their own 'squash and squeeze' house. Here are some pictures:
Maths
Although we have been rehearsing for our Songkran event, we started to look at positional language in English and Thai. Here are some pictures:
Home learning (optional): Continue to practise counting and writing numbers. Can you say one more than your number? Can you say one less than your number? Is your number odd or even?
Unit of Inquiry (UOI)
Unit: How the world works
Central Idea: Materials behave and interact in certain ways, which determine how people use them.
We are currently in the 'Taking Action' part of our inquiry. This week, we looked at dinosaurs. Some of the children are really interested in dinosaurs at the moment, so this was to give them insight into their interest.
Spoiler alert: For our next unit, we will be learning about roles and responsibilities with different jobs. One of the jobs we will look at in our next unit will be archaeologist (someone who studies dinosuars)! I know the children will enjoy this very much.
Here is what we got up to:
Home learning (optional): Can you do a science experiment at home? Have a look at the different experiment you can try with your child using this link. https://www.sciencefun.org/kidszone/experiments/
Physical Education (PE)
As we have the Songkran event on Friday, this means K2 have only had their swimming lesson this week. The children were very happy to go swimming on Tuesday, especially as it was very hot. Even Ms Charlie came for a swim too. Here are some pictures:
Thai
This week, the children have been learning all about Songkran in preparation for our event on Friday. Here are some pictures:
Library
No library books were given out this week due to the end of term. We will resume after the half-term break.
Library day is on Monday. This means your child can change their books and bring them home for the week. We would advise you to bring them back to school by Friday to ensure that your child's book will be changed. If you have any questions about this, please do not hesitate to contact me.
