Welcome to our weekly blog!

Star of the Week

Patrick has been awarded Star of the Week this week for being an Open-minderocus (Open-minded) and a Reflectosaurus (Reflector). Patrick has been exploring new play and learning opportunities he would not usually try. He has then reflected afterwards to think about how it went. Patrick has been really trying with the dance we are practising for Songkran. Well done Patrick! We hope you have a lovely week with Mr Bucky and we can't wait to hear about your adventures.

Phonics and Reading Challenge Friday

This week, we have continued to work really hard with our phonics.

Green Stars have learned the sound 'Gg' this week. They have been looking at words that contain the sound, practising their blending and writing skills.

Red Stars have learned the sound 'Bb/bb' this week. They have been looking at words that contain the sound, practising their blending and writing skills.

Blue Stars have learned the sound 'ee' and 'or' this week. They have been looking at words that contain the sound, practising their blending and writing skills. They have also been practising reading words from their reading challenge.

Home learning (optional): Make some sound flashcards with your child. You can use these for phonics practice at home.

Next week: Green Stars: Recap    Red Stars: Recap    Blue Stars: Recap

Story of the Week: A squash and a squeeze by Julia Donaldson - K2's favourite author

Talk 4 Writing

This week, we began looking at the story 'A Squash and a Squeeze' by Julia Donaldson. The children love Julia Donaldson stories and this has now become another favourite. We have made our own predictions based on what we could see on the front cover. We used our listening skills to listen carefully to the story. Next week, we will create our own 'Squash and Squeeze' house. Here are some pictures:

Maths

This week, we recapped the months of the year in Thai and English and talked about the three seasons of Thailand - summer, rainy and winter. We thought about the things we might eat, wear or where we might go during each season. Here are some pictures:

Home learning (optional): Practice adding one more and taking one away at home. Example: If I have four cubes, how many will I have if I add one more? Five cubes. If I have four cubes, how many will I have if I take one away? Three cubes.

Next week: Recap the days of the week in English and Thai and start looking at positional language.

Unit of Inquiry (UOI)

Unit: How the world works

Central Idea: Materials behave and interact in certain ways, which determine how people use them.

We are currently in the 'Taking Action' part of our inquiry. This week, we looked at space and planets. Some of the children are really interested in space at the moment, so this was to give them insight into their interest.

Spoiler alert: For our next unit, we will be learning about roles and responsibilities with different jobs. One of the jobs we will look at in our next unit will be astronauts! I know the children will enjoy this very much.

Here is what we got up to:

Next week, the children will conduct science experiments at their SLC which will end Unit 3 learning.

Home learning (optional): Can you do a science experiment at home? Have a look at the different experiment you can try with your child using this link. https://www.sciencefun.org/kidszone/experiments/

Physical Education (PE)

This week, the children continued to learn about balancing and jumping motor skills and how to apply those skills when we play team sports. In addition, we learned about gliding skills during our swimming lesson by gliding through the hula hoop. The children really enjoyed the lessons and had lots of fun.

Thai

This week, the children learned about Thai vowel sounds “ ao” สระ เอา. They are able to read new words with ao sound, เงา เสา เหา เกา เมา We also explored shadows using light and had fun drawing and shading the images with a dinosaur. ไดโนเสาร์

Digital Citizenship - Thursday

On Thursday, Mr Mark came to our class to teach the children about 'digital citizenship'. Mr Mark is an MY teacher at UDIS and is also the IT Coordinator. This was to create and share awareness on how to use the internet safely. Here are some pictures:
