Welcome to our weekly blog!

Star of the Week

Lily has been awarded Star of the Week this week for being a Balanceatops (Balanced) and a Knowledgeasaurus (Knowledgeable). Lily has continued to work really hard this week in all lessons. She has been answering lots of questions and sharing her thoughts and opinions during UOI. We have also been impressed with Lily's knowledge of the days of the week and months of the year in English and Thai. Well done Lily! We hope you have a lovely week with Mr Bucky and we can't wait to hear about your adventures.

Phonics and Reading Challenge Friday

This week, we have continued to work really hard with our phonics.

Green Stars have been looking at 'c' and 'k', hearing the initial sound in words and working on their blending and writing skills.

Red Stars have been focusing on the sound 'Dd'. They have been thinking of words that begin with the sound, blending words using all their phonic knowledge and practising their writing.

Blue Stars have been focusing on the sound 'Ff/ff'. They have been thinking of words that begin and contain the sound, using their blending skills and practising their writing. They have also been practising reading words from their reading challenge.

Here are some of the sentences we have been reading this week as part of our Reading Challenge:

Home learning (optional): Practice your Reading Challenge or your phonics.

Next week: Green Stars: Ee     Red Stars: Gg    Blue Stars: Bb

Story of the Week: Kipper's Toybox by Mick Inkpen

Talk 4 Writing

This week, we started the story series 'Kipper' by Mick Inkpen. The children discussed and made predictions about the adventures Kipper might go on. We also worked on our describing skills to describe the character 'Kipper'.

Maths

We have focused on days of the week in English and Thai. We have looked at Greater than >, Less than < and Equals to =. Number gators like to eat what's greater! Finally, counting and writing numbers and number bonds to 1, 2 and 3. Here are some pictures:

Home learning (optional): Can you compare numbers at home? If you have two different numbers, which number would the number gator want to eat? What happens if we have two numbers that are the same? Can you remember the different symbols? <  >  =

Extension: Does your child remember their number bonds to 1, 2 or 3? See if they can show you at home.

Next week: Ordinal numbers (linking with the Chinese Zodiac story). Comparing weights - heavy, light, balanced. Counting and writing numbers. Number bonds to 4 (with a recap of 1, 2 and 3).

Unit of Inquiry (UOI)

Unit: How the world works

Central Idea: Materials behave and interact in certain ways, which determine how people use them.

We have started a new unit this week. We are currently in the 'Finding out' part of our inquiry. This week we have taught UOI alongside Talk4Writing as they go hand-in-hand. The children chose an object each from the classroom and was asked to think about what it felt like with the following questions:

Is your object hard or soft?

Is your object smooth or rough?

Is your object bendy or rigid?

Some children also described their items as shiny.

Here are some pictures:

Next week, the children will look further into materials and how to identify them. We will be exploring plastic, wood, fabric, metal, glass and paper.

Home learning (optional): Explore different materials at home. Can you describe how it feels? What material could it be made from?

Physical Education (PE)

This week, we have been learning about running and balancing skills by playing some chasing and pre-sportive games such as "crossing the river" game. The students needed to wear a belt with two tags attached and some other students needed to chase and try to pull it together. In addition, we had a chance to explore the field to play throwing and catching with different types of balls.

Thai

This week, the students enjoyed Global Play Day, so in Thai class, we have learned from their toys. Students did a show and tell about the toys. Students explained the materials, size and colours then we drew our toys and copied words.

Here are some other things we have been getting up to

In circle time, we discussed what we need to do to look after our classroom and each other to stay safe.

Fancy Dress Day - Last Friday

Here are some pictures from Ms Bee from our fancy dress day last Friday:

Global Play Day - Wednesday

As always, the children have lots of fun on Global Play Day. Here are some pictures from Global Play Day:

Library is on a Monday. This means your child can change their books and bring them home for the week. We would advise to bring them back to school by Friday to ensure that your child's book will be changed. If you have any questions about this, please do not hesitate to contact me.
