Welcome to our weekly blog!

Star of the Week

Nat has been awarded Star of the Week this week for being an Inquireapod (Inquirer) and a Reflectosaurus (Reflector). Nat has been asking questions in relation to his learning. He has also been reflecting on his learning based on what he observed in the science experiments. Well done Nat! We hope you have a lovely week with Mr Bucky and we can't wait to hear about your adventures.

Phonics and Reading Challenge Friday

This week, we have continued to work really hard with our phonics.

Green Stars have learned the sound 'Dd' this week. They have been looking at words that contain the sound, practising their blending and writing skills.

Red Stars have learned the sound 'Ff/ff' this week. They have been looking at words that contain the sound, practising their blending and writing skills.

Blue Stars have learned the sound 'ie' this week. They have been looking at words that contain the sound, practising their blending and writing skills. They have also been practising reading words from their reading challenge.

Home learning (optional): You can find all the Jolly Phonics songs on Youtube. Sing the songs with your child and copy the actions. See if they can think of words beginning with that sound.

Next week: Green Stars: Gg    Red Stars: Bb/bb    Blue Stars: 'ee' and 'or'

Story of the Week: A squash and a squeeze by Julia Donaldson - K2's favourite author

Talk 4 Writing

We have focused on a non-fiction ebook called 'Where did the water go?' Previously, we have looked at how water can change the state by either being frozen to make ice or boiled to make steam. This week, we looked at the importance of water as on Monday it is 'World Water Day'. Linking with UOI, we created our own clouds completing a science experiment, discussed how we can save and reduce water waste and drew pictures of where we find water. Here are some pictures:

Maths

This week, we recapped the months of the year in Thai and English and talked about when our birthdays are. We started looking at odd and even numbers and how we can identify them. Here are some pictures:

Home learning (optional): Find different numbers around your home. Can your child identify whether they are odd (ending with 1, 3, 5, 7 or 9) or even (ending in 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8). How many odd numbers did they find? How many even numbers did they find? How many numbers did you find altogether?

Next week: Recap days of the week and months of the year in English and Thai. Look at when the seasons of Thailand fall in the calendar. Continue to practice finding one more and one less of a given number.

Unit of Inquiry (UOI)

Unit: How the world works

Central Idea: Materials behave and interact in certain ways, which determine how people use them.

We are currently in the 'Taking Action' part of our inquiry. This week we combined our UOI with our Talk4Writing. On Friday, we took part in some science experiments with K1 which we will be showing you at our upcoming Student-Led Conference (Tuesday 30th March). Here is a sneak peek at what we got up to:

Next week, the children will look at space and the different planets in our solar system. This is a big interest in the class at the moment.

Home learning (optional): Can you do a science experiment at home? Have a look at the different experiment you can try with your child using this link. https://www.sciencefun.org/kidszone/experiments/

Physical Education (PE)

Unfortunately, we were unable to have our swimming lesson due to the high air quality. Instead, this was replaced with a PE lesson.

This week, we continued to learn about some fundamental motor skills we have been learning such as catching, jumping and balancing. The learners had lots of fun playing with many different kinds of balls (throwing and catching skills) and also playing with the trampoline and walking over the jumping rope (jumping and balancing skills).

Thai

This week, the children have been reflecting on their learning Unit of Inquiry: 'How the world works' in regards to materials.

Fire Safety Presentation - Tuesday

This week, the firefighters from Central Plaza came to do a fire safety demonstration for the whole school. The children really enjoyed the presentation and some children say they now want to become firefighters when they grow up.

Here are some other things we have been getting up to:
